Deiarah’s journey began in University Park, Illinois. Throughout high school, she thrived as a member of the Speech & Drama team, earning accolades for her outstanding comedic performances. Her mentors constantly emphasized the importance of embracing our history and challenging prevailing narratives to create a better future. This has guided her in all of her college, career and creative endeavors.

Her passion for social justice deepened during her college years, leading her to actively participate in the Black Student Union and various campus movements at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Her love for teaching grew as a Teaching Assistant for a Communication in Social Movements course, where she imparted knowledge and inspired students to advocate for change. Deiarah’s dedication to research in these areas was recognized with the prestigious Richard Murphy Writing award at UIUC in 2019. Beyond academia, Deiarah has pioneered programs aimed at introducing youth to the arts by fostering creativity through workshops facilitated by experienced artists.

Post-graduation, she continues her mission of empowering young minds to discover their voices, reach their fullest potential and achieve their wildest dreams.

Currently, Deiarah is a mother to her 3 year old son, a dog & a turtle.
